Center for Book Arts Lounge
Author/Artist Esther K Smith and illustrator Liz Zanis explored some fun (and practical) book arts techniques in this hands-on extravaganza. Loungers made snake-book guest books, recycled paper snack holders, pop-up maps, and other exciting paper toys featured in Esther's new book The Paper Bride. Dikko Faust's hand-set wood and metal type originals and Purgatory Pie Press examples from The Paper Bride were on display for inspiration. Participants could bring along any papers they'd like to incorporate; and Smith's books were available for signing.

Champagne, Chocolate and Paper Craft with Esther K Smith of The Paper Bride
Esther Smith creates handmade books and letterpressed ephemera the old-fashioned way with her husband Dikko Faust at Tribeca studio Purgatory Pie Press (the two first collaborated on their own wedding invitations). Their typography designs are a special favorite of Greenlight Bookstore: Esther and Dikko designed our bookstore's logo! Esther's previous books How To Make Books and Magic Books and Paper Toys taught basic bookmaking techniques with the playful visual style PPP is known for.
With her new book The Paper Bride: Wedding DIY from Pop-The-Question to Tie-The-Knot and Happily Ever After, Esther brings the same DIY sense of fun to romance and wedding preparations. Greenlight celebrated the book with a special evening reception: enjoy champagne and chocolate in the store while learning some of the crafts from the book! Great for couples planning their special day, or for a girls' night out—come celebrate one of our favorite designers and the romance of paper craft!
